We have successfully finished our first week of school and it has been awesome!
Trent is a sophomore. He dressed up for the first day because he wanted to stand out and he said he wanted his teachers to remember him. Cross country keeps him busy after school.
Jake started 6th grade middle school. "the funnest of the fun" is how he describes it! I was so relieved and happy to hear how much he loves school. He loves everything about it and will even go on and on about how amazing the pizza is.

after school, Jake and I rushed over to our annual primary back to school pool party. Jake's last year!
Trying out his locker a few days before school started.
I found this poster in Emily's room about a week before school started. She is EXCITED to be a senior!
for high schoolers, the first day of school actually didn't start till noon, and then they only went to 10 minute classes basically just to say hi. So Emily, Trent and friends went out to IHOP for breakfast. Rachel and Reagan are two of Emily's best friends. They laughed when they saw that they had all worn a keyhole shirt for the first day.
Smokey Air: because of numerous fires in the area, our air has been super smokey and it's been raining ash. Because of this, the first XC meet of the season, on the first day of school was cancelled. But one week later, we are back to normal.
driving to school: Emily was bummed she did not get one of the coveted 238 parking passes, (picked through a lottery) We have a huge school with a tiny parking lot, which means 3/4 of the students take the bus. This is so different than where I went to school. Amazing to think that they have around 1,000 juniors and seniors, most of them with drivers licenses, probably wanting to drive to school and just 238 parking passes. A SENIOR can't even drive to school if she wants to. We've gone back and forth on buying a third car and still haven't done it, partly b/c of this parking problem. so we will continue to do what we did last year, Emily gets to take my car 1-2 days a week, and then leaves seminary 10 minutes early so she can find RARE street parking. Also different than when I went to school, a parking pass is $200.
new schedules: everything got pushed back 30 minutes so now seminary starts at 6:30 instead of 6:00 am. We are ecstatic. And middle and high schools have the same schedule, making my year so much less stressful than previous years!
