MTC night--mutual activity idea

We had an MTC night for the youth in our church a few weeks ago.  My friend Kristie and I were in charge of it.  It was a huge event, that took a ton of planning and time, but it turned out great!    We had around 40 kids there, which is a really good turn out for our ward.  We got a lot of ideas on pinterest and here and here. 

Since the Mia Maids (14-15 age girls) were in charge, we had 2 girls at the front door of the church, shaking hands and welcoming everyone to the MTC.  When they entered the RS room, we had another set of 2 girls, sitting at a table, passing out nametags and mission calls.  The kids were told to put on their nametag, but not open their call.

Opening your mission call Party--This was done really fast!  We went down the row and one by one each youth would open their call, read just the first sentence of where they were going, we'd all cheer, then move on to the next person. Emily went to Bolivia and Trent to Finland.

The kids were divided into three missions, South America, Asia and Europe.  A member of the bishopric was the "mission president" that led them around their four rotations.  They had to find the other person who had their same mission call, and that was their companion.

Rotation 1  Language and Culture  The kids loved the food samples!  learned a phrase in a new language, talked about what the church is like in that part of the world.

Rotation 2 P-day --They wrote letters to the missionaries from our ward, got the traditional picture taken with their companion by the map, and then there was a special delivery surprise!  One leader, dressed up as a mail carrier and came in with candy and letters from the kids' parents.  I think the kids were surprised to see a letter from their parents and they really liked it, but it was a huge hassle to track down all those letters.  The day before, I only had about half of them. 

Rotation 3  preparing for a mission--taught by the real missionaries!

rotation 4  door approaches  They had a three minute crash course on door approaches, then they went up and down the hallway, knocking.  Each door had a different experience behind it.  Athiest, golden contact, polite but not interested, rude/slam the door in their face etc.  This station was hilarious to watch!!

loved these signs on the door.  after the four rotations, we met back together for closing remarks from the bishop.  it was a great activity!
