girl's camp 2016

THEME--Own your Stripes!  with each cabin being a different animal.  Emily was in the Deer cabin.  OH DEER!!

another amazing year at girl's camp!  In our stake, you get to go to camp for seven years, the first 4 as a camper and the last 3 as a counselor.  This was Emily's first year being a counselor (YCL)

She has been involved in planning camp for the past six months!  a lot of time and effort went into it.  She learned a lot about being a leader.  She came home and said, "I never knew it was so hard to be in charge of stuff!"

As always, first aid certification is Emily's favorite.  She always volunteers for the most gruesome injuries, and was awarded a bloody finger to add to her girl's camp necklace, for going above and beyond in first aid.

At first she was disappointed to be assigned the counselor of the DEER cabin because all the counselors wanted animals like the lion or bear.  But after brainstorming, she discovered there are tons of cute things you can do with deer.  They used the phrase OH DEER a lot, and made cute t shirts and antlers for the girls.  Emily made deer memes to hang up all over and a large deer crossing sign for the front of the cabin.  Each day they would do roll call and you would call out your cabin.  They always did roll call in this order:  Lions and Tigers and Bears, OH DEER!

Prep at home:  Emily and her partner Kayla, got matching deer onesies, and made the t-shirts together.

Emily spent hours on the flag and antlers, which were made from pipe cleaners, brown bags and modpodge.  they turned out so cute!!

And this was Emily's first year winning a quilt in the lottery!  She was SO happy!  Each year the girl's make about 10 quilts during free time, giving 4 away for service and 6 get raffled off to girls at camp.  For every time you help with the quilts, you can put your name in the raffle.  Emily has put her name in the maximum amount of times each year.  yay!!

I am so grateful for all the adult camp leaders who pulled this off and helped the older teenagers be great counselors.  I had quite a few adults come up to me privately, after camp was over, and tell me what an amazing counselor Emily was.
