life in boxes...again

The move last weekend went great!  The first thing we did, on Saturday was put up a flag!  since it was Memorial Day weekend and all.  Living abroad really makes you love your country!!  When we got back from Japan, I felt strongly about getting a flag, and flying it often.

A move, just 2 doors down--to a home with the exact same floor plan is relatively easy.   this is what you do.

Step 1

Step 2:  cut across neighbor's yard.  They were out of town. and are rarely home.  they have a second home in Taiwan and split their time between countries.

Step 3:  you're there! walk into new house and put the item in the exact same place you got it in the old house.

for about 2 weeks before the actual move day, we worked with the kids 20 minutes a day going back and forth.  so that by move day, 3/4 of our stuff was already in the new house and all set up.  except big furniture items.

the tricky thing was watching the weather.  it's been raining and raining...so when it would stop or at least slow down to a drizzle, we'd say to the kids, "everybody grab a box! it stopped raining!"  and on the actual move day, it was warm and sunny!!  a tender mercy for sure.  this allowed the kids to just play outside and stay out of our way to let us work.  They spend most of their day riding bikes and trying to catch the wild rabbits around the neighborhood.  never did catch one, though.  Spring has brought tons of wildlife around here!  tons of rabbits and deer.  and last week, a few blocks away, there was a bobcat sighting.

best picture of a rabbit I could get...

that day my sweet friend, Shannon, dropped off a surprise lunch, including mini individual martinelli's so we could celebrate our first home.  the kids loved that.  so thoughtful.  and then that night we took the kids to Red Robin for dinner and rewarded ourselves with bottomless root beer floats, my favorite thing about that restaurant.

And now life is getting back to normal.  Except I often, absent mindedly, pull into the wrong driveway!  and have to remind myself, you don't live here anymore.  The kids went home to the wrong house after school that first day last week.  and since Emily and Trent have switched bedrooms, I still forget whose room is whose.

I'm getting tired of everybody's last day of school/summer plans blog and FB posts...b/c we still have 2 more weeks of school.    we can't wait!!!  and wish summer would hurry up and come.  but they say June is a rainy month and it won't warm up till July around here.  Today it's pouring rain and temps in the high 40's.   Yes, 40's.  But that's good news for Emily b/c she loves having swim team practices in the rain.  I was, initially, worried about how they do swim team in the rain.  But Emily says the rain makes practices more fun.  The pool is heated, and the rain feels like a back massage while you're swimming.  her friend said to her, "wait till it starts hailing! it's the best!"  well, we haven't had any hail yet, but you never know!
